21-11-2007 I work in an industrial copper company as vibration analysis supervisor. This company started to work about 2 years ago. We have two Ball Mills and one Sag Mill. We had some visual inspection on pinion and ring gears, during these inspections we found some abnormal wear on this gears (pictures show this problem in enclosure).
SAG mills grinding media includes some large and hard rocks, filled rate of 9% – 20%. SAG mill grind ores through impact, attrition, abrasion forces. In practice, for a given ore and equal processing conditions, the AG milling has a finer grind than SAG mills. How does a sag mill work?
SAG mill make use of steel balls included with some large and hard rocks for grinding. These mills utilize the balls in making the large fragments of materials broken into pieces. The ball charge of a SAG mill is about 9% to 20%.This process takes place inside the large rotating drum of SAG mill which is filled with balls partially.
Sag Mill Drives: Girth Gears At 18,000 Hp sag mill drives: girth gears at 18,000 hp operation and performance this paper was originally presented at the vancouver sag mill conference in 1996 reducing the fatigue life of a girth gear girth gear driving a ball mill the failure the girth gear is the most critical component of the mill drive in.

The ball mill accepts the SAG or AG mill product. Ball mills give a controlled final grind and produce flotation feed of a uniform size. Ball mills tumble iron or steel balls with the ore. The balls are initially 5–10 cm diameter but gradually wear away as grinding of the ore proceeds. The feed to ball mills (dry basis) is typically 75 vol ...

A ball mill, a type of grinder, is a cylindrical device used in grinding (or mixing) materials like ores, chemicals, ceramic raw materials and paints.Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding medium. Different materials are used as media, including ceramic balls, flint pebbles, and stainless steel balls.

Attrition mill is a type of grinding mill by kinds of media to crush lump to powder-like substances. The impact can be rock on rock such as in an Autogenous Grinding (AG) mill, rock and a small ball charge (~10%), used in Semi Autogenous Grinding (SAG) mills, balls of various sizes in Ball Mills and less commonly these days, steel rods in Rod Mills.
mill. As such, primary ball mills should be designed with the rod mill work index, and single-stage ball mills should be with both the rod mill and ball mill indices. This is because it is common to observe a difference (sometimes significant) between the rod mill and ball mill index values for a given ore type (McKen, Verret, Williams, 2006). On
AG/SAG mill is inefficient in grinding particles of a certain size, typically in the range of 25-55 mm, i.e., pebbles. Therefore, cone crushers are often used as pebble crushers and integrated into AG/SAG mill circuits to break the critical size particles that accumulate in the mill and to increase the performance of the primary grinding circuits.

stage ball mills, rod mills or AG/SAG mills when calculating power according to the Bond Third Theory method. Rod mill and AG/SAG mill products are similar and tend to be not as steep as a 0.5 slope when plotted on log-log paper. This is because the particle size distribution (PSD), these mills
