Besides producing OPC, the Pakistani cement industry also started producing SRC, Slag cement and white cement. In 1921 the first cement plant was established at WAH. At the time of independence in 1947 there were four cement factories with an installed capacity of 470,000 tonnes per annum.
11-09-2017 Presently, the total installed capacity of 28 cement plants is 17.312 million tonnes in Pakistan. The industry witnessed a steady growth rate of 8 percent until 1994. Before 1994, the country was facing shortage of cement that was met through imports.

Pakland cement is Pakistan’s first private sector cement plant to go into production. It was incorporated in 1980 with the objective of establishing a 1000 metric tonnes per day capacity ordinary Portland cement plant at Dhabeji, about 60 km from Karachi.
